Gertrude Paul, 98, of El Campo, passed away May 24, 2016. She was born on December 27, 1917 in Waukegan, Ill. to Clinton and Louise Larson Spoor.
Rosalie P. Hlavaty, 90, of Hillje, passed away May 25, 2016. She was born Nov. 10, 1925 in Hillje to Edward and Pauline Kainer Popp. Rosie was a homemaker, spending many hours putting smiles on her customer’s faces with her ceramic Easter eggs and flower arrangements from Hlavaty’s Gift Shop. She was a member of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, Hillje Altar Society, Catholic Daughters of America, and VFW Auxiliary.
Steve Sosa Sanchez, 80, of Louise passed away May 25, 2016. He was born Nov. 28, 1935 in Jackson County to Roland and Guadalupe Sanchez.
Rita Jean Kresta, 81, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2016 in Angleton. She was born Jan. 31, 1935 in El Campo to John and Katherine (Wendel) Nohavitza. Growing up she lived in a small community, Taiton by El Campo; she graduated in 1953 from Crescent High School; she married the love of her life, George L. Kresta on Nov. 27, 1952. They moved to Brazoria in 1966, she drove a bus for CBISD; she was a member of KJZT, Catholic Daughters; St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, the Altar Society, Polka Lovers of America, a lifetime member of the Brazoria County Fair Association and a charter member of the Brazoria Heritage Foundation. The family opened up the business Kresta’s BBQ and Catering in 1980 and served the community for 22 years.
Edward “Eddie” Farthing of Clemville passed away May 22, 2016 at Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City. He was born Oct. 24, 1964 in El Campo to Everett Farthing and Ane Marie Farthing.
Terry Karstedt, 56, of El Campo, passed away May 21, 2016. He was born on May 13, 1960 in El Campo to Jerome and Mary Lynn Krenek Karstedt. He was the owner of WaterFowl Specialties Inc.
Logic Tobola II passed into the nearer presence of God on May 21, 2016 at the family farm in El Campo. Logic was born Oct. 17, 1940 in El Campo to Logic and Tillie Peterka Tobola.
Jack Nathie Garner of El Campo died May 20, 2016 at the age of 70. He was born Jan. 22, 1946 in El Campo to Guy and Clara Gazzette Garner. He was a retired independent oilfield consultant, U.S. Army Viet Nam Veteran, member of the American Legion Post 251, the VFW and SPJST Lodge 30.
Edward L. Schoelman of New Taiton died May 19, 2016 at the age of 79. He was born Dec. 27, 1936 in New Taiton to Paul Henry and Alice Mae Yackel Schoelman. He was a life-long farmer and an U.S. Army veteran.
Charles Anderson Washington was born Aug. 16, 1931 to Richard and Leola (Adams) Washington of Edna. Charles professed his faith and accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. He was baptized at the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Edna, where S.H. Jackson was pastor. At the time of his death, Charles was a member of United Praise and Worship Church in El Campo under the leadership of Pastor Jerrell Baron.
Hazel Marie Murray, 60, of El Campo, passed away May 15, 2016 at Rosenberg Health Care Center. She was born Nov. 26, 1955 in El Campo to Hollie and Lucille Godley Murray.
Josie Martinovic, 72, of Wharton, passed away May 15, 2016. She was born March 11, 1944 in Wharton to Pablo and Francisca Fonseca Jaquez. She was an EKG tech for over 20 years before retiring in 1996.
Raymond Clement Hlavaty, 83, of El Campo, passed away May 10, 2016. He was born Nov. 22, 1932 in El Campo to Frank L. and Annie Polasek Hlavaty. Shortly after his birth, his mother died and he was raised by his aunt and uncle Charlie and Louisa Jezisek.
Cornellia Orsak Messer, 68, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, died on May 7, 2016 in Austin.
On May 8, 2016, James “JC” Johnson, 76, of El Campo, went to his heavenly home. To cherish his memory, he leaves his loving wife of 54 yrs, Classie Johnson; three children, Warren and Steven Johnson and Nicole Allison; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; seven siblings, Douglas, Robert, Doris, JoAnn, Shirley, Arlene, Lynn and Betty and a host of other relatives and friends.
Nieves “Momo” Damian Ramirez, 94, died peacefully in her home on May 8, 2016 in El Campo. Nieves was born Aug. 5, 1921 in Arcola to Guadalupe Damian and Aurelia Damian.
Louise Rosie Kovar, 81, passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at OakBend Medical Center in Richmond after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was born July 10, 1934 to John and Sophie Polasek Hanzelka in East Bernard. She married Bennie E. Kovar, became a housewife and mother and lived in East Bernard until 1978. She then moved to Richmond/Rosenberg. After the passing of her husband in 2004, she moved to Wallis.
Miguel Longoria Torres, 65, of El Campo passed away May 4, 2016. Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Sunday, May 8 at Wheeler Funeral Home with funeral service at 10 a.m. Monday, May 9 at St. Robert’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Wheeler Funeral Home, El Campo.
Walter Slezinsky, 93, of El Campo, passed away May 5, 2016. He was born July 12, 1922 in Wharton County to Rudolph and Jennie Stepan Slezinsky. He was a retired veteran of the U.S. Army, a member of the Blessing American Legion Post 649 and a lifetime Wharton County 100 Club.
Kermit Ladell Edwards, 46, of El Campo passed on to the other side April 23, 2016 at his residence surrounded by his family. To commemorate his life, a home going service was held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 6 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in El Campo. He was laid to rest at El Campo Community Cemetery.
Roxana Lynn Menefee, 29, of Victoria passed away, Saturday, April 30, 2016. Roxana was born Aug. 26, 1986 in San Miguel, El Salvador. Roxana graduated from Louise High School in 2005 and attended Mary Hardin Baylor College and The University of Houston-Victoria. Her greatest achieve0ment was the day her son, Landon was born. She loved him more than life. They enjoyed the small things in life like playing video games and watching TV. They were each other’s support system and just loved the time they spent together.

Delores Barbara Strouhal Lehnert, 81, of Louise, passed away April 29, 2016. She was born in Louise on April 5, 1935 to Fabian and Justina Hruzek Strouhal. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and Louise Altar Society. Delores worked as a teacher’s aide until retirement.

Glenda Tarver Hemphill was taken by cancer and passed from this life to her heavenly home on April 17, 2016 surrounded by her family at her home in Canyon Lake. She was born Aug. 1, 1946 in Cisco to A.L. and Verna Tarver. Her family moved to El Campo in 1952 when Glenda was six years old. She went to school in El Campo, attending El Campo High School. She was married to Ed Hemphill for 27 years and they lived in Canyon Lake. She was a Brownie/Girl Scout at a young age and was a member of the Rainbow Girls. She was a member of Memorial Baptist Church of El Campo. She worked hard through the years to raise her family and eventually retired as a bank teller. She enjoyed crafting, sewing and going to garage sales. In later years, she loved the DIY Channel. Her greatest love was family, her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
After a brief and unexpected illness, our beloved Dad and PawPaw, Irvin Zacek, was called to his heavenly home on Thursday, April 21, 2016, surrounded by his loving family.

Jeanette Christina MacDonald Burris of DeQueen, Ark. went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, April 23, 2016 in Temple. She was born in Folkestone, Kent, England March 31, 1935 to Gladys Godden and Jerry MacDonald. She was raised by her mother and stepfather, Ernest Waller. She had four siblings, Gerald Godden, Janet Waller, Douglas Waller and Philip Waller. She met her husband, Norman L. Burris, who was in the American Air Force in England and became Jeanette C. Burris on September 22, 1956. Shortly after the birth of their first child, they moved back to the United States. They lived in Missouri for awhile and moved to several states. Most years were spent in Pasadena, Dickinson, El Campo and currently DeQueen, Ark. They raised six children, have 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Jeanette has been a devoted sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother over the years. She and Norman would have been married 60 years on Sept. 22, 2016 but have been together for 62 plus years.
With her family by her side, Kathleen Carol Boughton Underwood of Buda was welcomed home into the arms of her Lord on April 20, 2016. She was 68 years old.

April 15, 2016, Winona Wynn Rolf of Eagle Lake departed her earthly life to her heavenly home and a joyous reunion with her beloved husband, mother, father sister and brother. A native Texan, she was born Feb. 13, 1918 in Bloomington, the eldest child of Guy N. Wynn Sr. and Oma Robbinson Wynn.
Lillie Mae Dornak Pall, our beloved Mamaw, passed away peacefully the morning of Saturday, the 16th of April, 2016. Born in Wharton, on Dec. 8, 1918, to Louis B. and Annie Fried Dornak, she was 97 years young. Lillie Mae and her sweetheart husband Tony lived in Winnie, Liberty, Alice and Corpus Christi during Tony’s 42-year career with Texaco. After his retirement in 1980, they built a home in El Campo, her childhood hometown, and spent their remaining years enjoying being “home,” close to family and friends.
Larry William Buss, 83, of El Campo, passed away April 14, 2016. He was born June 20, 1932 in Hallettsville to Victor and Emma Opella Buss. Larry served in the Air Force from 1950-1954. He was an active member of American Legion Post 251 and Knights of Columbus No. 2490.
Vlasta Emilie Fojtik Boehm, 86, of El Campo, passed away April 12, 2016. She was born Feb. 26, 1930 in Garwood to John and Mary Zacek Fojtik. She was a bookkeeper for her husband’s company, Ed Boehm Water Well Service and a member of the Catholic Daughters of America Court 1374.
Alfred J. Cerny, 82, of El Campo, departed from us to be with our Lord and Savior on April 9, 2016, after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s and dementia. He was born Nov. 10, 1933 in El Campo to Joe Victor and Rosie Louise (Cerny) Cerny.
Savannah Grace Perez, infant daughter of Emily Waymire and Hector Perez, passed away April 4, 2016. Graveside service was held at 3 p.m. Thursday, April 7 at the Swedish Lutheran Cemetery.

Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. A visitation will be held beginning at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, April 7 at Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell, with a rosary recited at 7:30 p.m. Mrs. Coufal passed away on April 2, 2016 in Caldwell.
Domingo Garcia Jr., 64, of El Campo, passed away March 31, 2016. He was born on July 1, 1951 in El Campo to Domingo Garcia Sr. and Aurora Castillo Garcia. He was an agricultural chemical sales representative for 48 years.
Leon Robert Wishert, 23, of El Campo, passed away April 1, 2016 at home surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born June 24, 1992 in El Campo to Robert Lee and Barbara Ann Wishert. Leon worked in the oilfield as a hand operator for Hamman Swabbing prior to his illness. He was a dedicated family man and helped out others often.
