Floyd Shimek

Floyd Lee Shimek, 87, of El Campo, passed away April 18, 2019. He was born Sept. 1, 1931 in El Campo to Adolph and Jennie Dornak Shimek. Floyd was a U.S. Army Veteran and a retired carpenter. After retirement, Floyd enjoyed building things like swings, domino tables and screen windows. He loved playing dominos and was a devoted member of American Legion Post 251, having previously worked bingo for over 40 years on Friday nights. He was also a member of the funeral honor guard, VFW and was the former assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 531.

He is survived by his daughter, Leeanna Shimek and Kenny Socha of El Campo; son, Brian Shimek of El Campo; granddaughters, Kristi Munoz and Lauren Miksik; three great-grandchildren and sister, Gloria Ann Slovak and husband Richard of El Campo.

Floyd was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Madeline Shimek.

Visitation begins at 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 23 at Triska Funeral Home with a Rosary recited at 6 p.m. Funeral Mass begins at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 24 at St. John Catholic Church in New Taiton with the Rev. Gabriel Oduro Tawiah officiating. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Memorial Park in El Campo.

Pallbearers will be Douglas Slovak, Shannon Crabtree, Kim Vanek, Bill Eisele, Sheldon Holub, Gene Berry and Leonard Mieth. Honorary pallbearers will be Norbert Eggemeyer, Leslie Bacak, Richard Slovak and members of the Sunnyside domino group.

Memorial donations in memory of Floyd may be made to El Campo Volunteer Fire Department or American Legion Post 251.
