The El Campo Ladybirds run-rule the Brookshire Royal Lady Falcons 17-0 in four innings on the road Tuesday night. The Ladybirds got no-hitter from sophomore Mackenzie Matlock and picked up 13 hits to soar high over the Falcons.
With the win over Brookshire, the Ladybirds are now 15-5 on the season and 8-2 in District.
The Ladybirds jumped on the Falcons early. Two-hole hitter, senior Reagan David singled with one out and the Ladybirds had someone on base. Senior Peyton Stock followed with a triple to put the Ladybirds up 1-0. A passed ball scored Stock and El Campo finished the inning 2-0.
Matlock sat down six straight batters before she allowed her only base runner of the night. In the bottom of the third, Matlock allowed a lead-off walk. The sophomore quickly recovered and struck out the next three batters to close out the inning. Matlock on the night stuck out eight of the 13 batters that she faced.
In the top of the fourth, the Ladybirds’ bats caught fire and scored 12 runs. The offense as a team hit for a cycle.
Leading 7-0, with two outs and a runner on second, senior Natalia Terrell hit a grounder to right field. Terrell motored around the bases and scored an inside-the-park-homer. With the score 11-0, David hit a triple to left field to clear the bases. Terrell closed out the Ladybirds scoring with the team’s third triple of the inning to score one and put the team up 17-0.
In the top of the fourth, a nearly unending 17 Ladybirds marched to the plate. Fourteen batters came with two outs. In total, El Campo got eight hits and took advantage of three Royal errors to score 12 runs.
Friday night, the Ladybirds played Sealy at home. With a win, they’ll remain one game behind Needville for first place in District. The Ladybirds have one last game on the District schedule before heading to the playoffs. El Campo will play Wharton, Tuesday on the road.
