With the El Campo Ladybirds win over the Caldwell Lady Jackets, they will now face the Fredericksburg Billies in the second round of the playoffs this Thursday and Saturday in Three Rivers.
Game one will be Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
Game two will be Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
Game three, if needed, will be after game two.
The Billies (27-8-1 and 9-1 in District) were the District 27 champions. The Ladybirds (19-6 and 10-2 in District) finished in second place in District 25. The Billies will meet the Ladybirds after a two-game sweep over Lampasas.
Coach Roxanne Cavazos scouted the Billies last year because they were going to face the winner of Fredericksburg and Sweeny in the third round of the playoffs. While El Campo ended up playing Sweeny, it did offer Cavazos to get a look at them.
“It’s pretty much the same team returning,” Cavazos said. “They have their pitcher returning and if we stay patient at the plate and do our jobs I think we’ll be pretty competitive this weekend.”
In District play this year, the Billies used two different pitchers, Ella Weinheimer in 35 innings had a 3.86 ERA and Emery Boettcher threw 30 innings and had a 3.90 ERA.
In the two first round games with Lampasas, the Billies used both pitchers. Lampasas allowed seven home runs to Billies batters.
Caldwell came into the Ladybirds series boasting big power numbers, but in the three-game series, the El Campo pitching staff allowed only one home run.
