El Campo boys and girls golf will play in the Regional golf tournament in Corpus Christi on Monday and Tuesday. The girls golf team will be looking to punch their tickets to State at the Oso Golf Course. Senior Blaine Bullard will be representing the boys team as an individual golfer and play on Lozano Golf Course.
“They are both public golf courses in Corpus Christi,” coach Derek Treybig said. “The boys have played it, so Blaine (Bullard) is very familiar with this golf course. The girls haven’t advanced so this will be their first time seeing it, but (the courses) are much easier than the District course Greatwood. The only x-factor is it’s on the coast so it could be very windy.”
Bullard along with senior year has been balancing pitching for the Ricebirds with getting in practice time for golf.
“He’s been working on it. He’s hit his target scores and we’ll see what happens,” Treybig said.
The girls team before District play got a boost from junior Bryn Rod returning from an injury, which helped them at the District tournament. Since District, the team has been trying to improve during practices.
“We’re practicing and we’re trying to get better than we were at District,” Treybig said. “All we can do is try to improve upon what we did at District, that’s the main goal.
