Freshman Aleixa Alcalais clears a hurdle in the 300-meter hurdles at Area. She will compete in the 100-meter hurdles at Regionals.

 

El Campo will have representation at the Regional track meet today. Between the boys and girls teams. El Campo will compete in nine events at Javelina Stadium in Kingsville.

Junior Philip Hundl, who was the Area champion in the 110-meter hurdles, 300-meter hurdles and the high jump, will be looking to make his way back to State. Last season, Hundl qualified for State in the 110-meter hurdles and the high jump. Hundl will be the only member of the boys team competing.

The girls track team will have six girls competing in six different events, both up from last season. The 4x100-meter relay team, freshman Alexia Alcalais will compete in the 110-meter hurdles, sophomore Jackie Nichols will compete in the triple jump and the long jump, which she was finished as the Area champion, sophomore Breanna Perez will compete in the 800-meter run and senior Caterra Wilkins will race in the 100-meter dash.

Last year the girls team competed in four events at Regionals, now they’ll have six chances to make State for the first time since they took a 4x100-meter relay team in 2013.

Sophomore Javier Olvera will heading to Regionals this weekend at the Javelina Stadium in Kingsville. At the Area meet, Olvera finished as the Area runner-up in the 1600-meter run with a time of 4:57.86 less than a second away from finishing in first place. Last year Olvera finished in fourth at Area in the 1600-meter run.
