Jackie Nichols runs in the 4x100-meter during the Ricebird relays earlier in the season

The Ricebirds will be back at the State track meet this season. Junior Philip Hundl and sophomore Jackie Nichols qualified for State with top two finishes in three events at the Regional meet Friday and Saturday in Kingsville.

Last year Hundl as a sophomore made it to State and was the only Ricebird in Austin. This year Nichols joins him as the first girl to State go since 2013 when a relay team made it.

Hundl at the Regional track meet won the high jump and finished in second place in the 110-meter hurdles. Nichols clinched her bid to State by a half inch, in the long jump.

Freshman Alexia Alcalais did not qualify for the finals. She finished in 10th out of 16, with a time of 17.01.

100-meter dash

Senior Caterra Wilkins did not qualify for the finals. She finished in 10th out of 15 with a time of 13.06.

Javier Olvera won’t be moving on to State in track this season. The sophomore Hornet finished in 16th place in the 1600-meter run at the Regional track meet with a time of 5:27.36.
