On Your Mark

Incoming sophomore Kendall Beal, front, and incoming senior Camryn Jansky (back) get ready to make their leap backward in the 50-yard backstroke. Jansky and Beal finished first and second.

In the nine-team Coastal Cities Aquatic Association (CCAA), the El Campo Red Wave finished in fourth place at the championship meet in Rosenberg Saturday morning.

El Campo finished behind Bay City who had a larger swim team.

“I’m very pleased,” Coach Richard Nava said. “A lot of the kids had personal best times and that’s what we swim for. We swim, to swim your best. (If you finish) eighth, and that’s your best, you’re a winner because you beat your best time.”

In the 41 events the Red Wave competed in, they had 11 first place finishes including Kyndahl Pierce who led El Campo with three first-place finishes.

High school swimmer incoming senior Camryn Jansky broke a CCAA swim record that was set in 2015.

“She holds four of the five records backstroke records,” Nava said. “The only one she doesn’t have is 8 and under backstroke, she has everything else.”
